Course Description

Does every charity need to register to solicit funds from the public? What regulations apply to online donations, special events, professional fundraisers, and cause marketing co-ventures? This webinar will provide an overview of state charitable registration and reporting requirements for all types of fundraising. We’ll learn how to determine when and where registration and reporting is required, then examine state-specific non-profit financial statement requirements and the interplay between Form 990 and financial statements. Next, we’ll discuss exemptions, extensions, and state-mandated disclosure statements. Finally, we will discuss the role of the CPA in managing state charitable registration and reporting requirements.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify which traditional and online fundraising activities trigger registration and reporting requirements

  • Identify additional non-profit activities including special events and cause marketing co-ventures that may trigger special registration and reporting requirements in certain states

  • Recognize state-specific exemptions, extensions, and disclosure statements

  • Recognize whether reviewed or audited financial statements must be filed in order to register to solicit in a state

  • Determine the role of the CPA in managing state charitable registration and reporting
