Course Description

This session focuses on what CPAs need to know about artificial intelligence, starting with identifying what exactly artificial intelligence is, what it isn’t, and its implications for CPAs. Examples will be provided to identify and illustrate places in which AI is already being used to help automate and streamline accounting processes. Additionally, projections and forward-looking ideas will be presented for attendees to consider as AI platforms and tools become more mainstream, including how to leverage this adoption for increased revenue generation.

Learning Objectives:


  • Identify and analyze the components and aspects of artificial intelligence, including different types of intelligence that can be built into software

  • Understand the applications and uses of artificial intelligence at industry levels, as well as uses for CPAs

  • Discuss how current AI offerings currently available for professional use can be implemented to augment and improve business practices

Sean is an assistant professor at the City University of New York – Lehman College. He serves on the Advisory Board of the Wall Street Blockchain Alliance, where he chairs the Accounting Working Group. Sean sits on the Advisory Board of Gilded and is a strategic advisor to the Central Bank Digital Currency Think Tank. Sean also serves as an Advisor to Crescent City Capital, a cryptoasset investment fund.

Sean is a widely recognized expert in the areas of blockchain and cryptoassets, especially as they connect to accounting and financial services. His thought leadership is sought after by academic and industry organizations, and includes his efforts to develop and teach the first ever courses focusing on blockchain and crypto at Lehman College beginning in 2021.

Sean has also been named one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting, and has been named a past winner of the NJCPA Ovation Award for Innovation. He has also been named a 40 under 40 in the accounting profession from 2017-2021 by CPA Practice Advisor and the NYSSCPA in 2021. Sean was named on the NJBIZ Power 50 in Accounting in 2021 & 2022. He was also awarded the Outstanding Young CPA of the Year Award by the AICPA in 2022.
